Pittsburgh Penguins 2011-2012: A Season of Keyboard Smashes

This season was full of...well...keyboard smashes. Good ones and bad ones.

Let's revisit some after the jump.

Nothing To Lose

Welp. The Penguins are down 3-0. 40 goal scorer James Neal is out. PK extraordinaire Craig Adams is out. Arron Asham is out. Paul Martin is out (not that anyone is really upset about that). But somehow, there's a buzz that if the Penguins can somehow find themselves, they can still win this series. And that's how it should be. This series is first to four, and no one has won 4 yet.

The Penguins obviously haven't had the results they wanted against the Flyers, but they did win 2 regular season games. One in Philadelphia. After losing 3 straight games to Philly, the Pens stepped in to the Wells Fargo Center and scored 3 quick goals in the third to break Bryzgolov and win 6-4. If the Pens can find what they did in that third period early in this game, and HOLD THE LEAD, this series will go another game.

Play likes there's no tomorrow and you'll live to play another day.

Comeback starts now.

Let's Go Pens.

Hockey Night: Game 2 vs Flyers

Penguins vs Flyers
7:30pm
Consol Energy Center

So Game 1 wasn't the outcome we expected after the first period. The Pens let the game slip away, and before they knew it, they were in overtime. Everyone watching that game knew what was going to happen, but those rooting for the Penguins hoped their team would somehow get out alive.

But it's on to the next one. No one ever said or expected one of these teams to sweep the other. It's no time to get all jammed up about some not call on an offsides. They didn't blow the whistle. There's nothing you can do about it. Now is where the 'guins get back on track. Anyone that has watched this team for more than 8 seconds knows that they always find a way to bounce back. Let's hope they do it again in what seems to be a pivotal Game 2.

This is where we get back on track. If the Pens play with the intensity they did in the first 20 and they can get on the plus side of special teams, expect this series to head to Philly tied 1-1.

Need to take advantage of home ice. Hopefully Consol is even louder than the first game.

16 wins away.

Let's Go Pens.

The Last 10

Just as expected, the Eastern Conference race is as tight as Richard Simmons' gym shorts. After getting no help from the Red Wings, the Penguins currently trail the Rangers by 3 points, but have a game in hand. After the jump is a look at the last 10 games.

Hockey Night: Columbus

Penguins vs Blue Jackets
1pm
Consol Energy Center

The Blue Jackets are awful. They're so bad that Brad Thiessen is starting for the Pens today. To be honest, he'll probably shut them down...hopefully.

Hockey Night: Rangers

Pens vs Rangers
7 pm
Consol Energy Center

Another divisional match up for the 'guins tonight.

Orpik and Cooke will be out for tonight's game, but that doesn't mean this game is out of reach. The Rangers are the best they've been in the past few years, but honestly, they aren't THAT good. Looking out onto the horizon, it's a good time to be a Penguins fan. The Flyers are beginning to fall apart, the Capitals are dead, and to be honest, the New York is a losing streak away from having a bridge jumping convention. Not saying it will happen, just saying there's always a chance.

Whatever. What matters is tonight.

Let's Go Pens.

Hockey Night: Flyers

Penguins vs Flyers
1 pm
Wells Fargo Center

Nothing really needs to be said.

The Flyers are 2-0 against the Pens this season, so the Pens are looking to get their first win against the Flyers in enemy territory.

The Flyers have been kinda iffy the last couple weeks, going 4-6 in their last 10 games.

As it looks right now, these 2 teams look destine to play each other in the first round of this years Playoffs. Although I have a feeling the Flyers worst days of their season are ahead of them, especially if they bring in ANOTHER goalie before the deadline.

Let's Go Pens.

Hockey Night: Lightning

Penguins vs Lightning
7pm
Consol Energy Center (or Centre for all you weird Canadians)

This one should be fun. Last game, Malkin made Lecavalier look like an idiot by ducking out of a check. After being embarrassed by Geno, Vincent decided to follow him around and get "revenge" by sucker punching Malkin after the whistle.

After this well...let's just say Malkin took matters into his own hands.

Hopefully Malkin's rage will carry over into this game.

Let's Go Pens.

Reasons I'm Excited to See The Wheeling Nailers

I'm going to go the Wheeling Nailers game on Saturday, and I'm actually pretty pumped. I've never been to a Minor League game, but I'm sure it will be fun watching the Pens affiliated team play. Few reasons why I'm looking forward to Saturday after the break.

Hockey Night (or Afternoon):

Penguins vs Devils
1 pm

Pens finishing up their weekend against the Devils, who are currently right behind them in the standings. The 'guins have won 9 of their last 10, while the Devils are riding a 3 game winning streak into today's bout.

Cal O'Reilly is sure to be in everyone's mouth today.

Hockey Night: Maple Leafs

Penguins @ Maple Leafs
730 pm
Air Canada Centre

Pens playing the second game of a home and home against the Leafs. Probably won't be as heart attack-inducing as last nights game, but it should be interesting to see how both teams come out. Brent Johnson is in net for the Pens, and James Reimer will start for Toronto. Also, former Penguin Colby Armstrong will play, after being out with a concussion.

In honor of Beej starting, go listen to some Led before game time. I'd paste a YouTube video of House of the Holy, but this iPhone is failing to cooperate.

Let's Go Pens.

Assdffgjjllfjfkk. Pens win.

Valiant effort by the Pens to say the least. Fleury was unreal. Steve Sullivan and Matt Cooke (who pretty much made me eat my words) actually stood out for the first time in awhile. 5 minutes into the 3rd, people were leaving CEC, and at that point, I almost didn't blame them. But still, I've said before and I'll say it again: If you pay to go to the game, you stay til the end. Why waste money to leave halfway through the third, go to your car and still sit in traffic? Even if you beat the traffic, why leave? To go sit at home? It just fathoms me. Regardless, the two teams play again in 12 hours as of right now. To hold you of, here's some pictures I took last night, after the break of course.

I lied. Hockey Night: Toronto Maple Leafs

I'm just writing random posts like this Gameday in order to get used to this Blogger thing. Not sure if I'll stick to these Hockey Night things, but we'll see.

Penguins vs Leafs
7 p.m
Consol Energy Center

1st night of a Home at Home series. Toronto leads the series 1-0, after a 4-3 game on October 29. That was back when Matt Cooke was actually scoring goals, and Brent Johnson was in net, so that tells you a lot about that game.

Lines should probably be the same as usual, except Colin McDonald was called up, so he may squeeze his way into the lineup tonight.

Penguins Highlight Against Leafs:

I'm going tonight, so I'll probably post some pictures later.

Let's Go Pens.

First Post

Greetings....

My names Derick and this is my blog. Mostly about the Penguins. There'll probably be some other random posts about stuff, too. I have no clue where I'm going with this actually. So...yeah.

Ill probably write some crappy recap about the Pens Leafs game I'm going to tonight, so all of you that managed to find this blog that quickly, be prepared.
